Lynn Drobbin & Associates prepared the historic resource analysis for the Poughkeepsie Station Rehabilitation and Parking Improvements Project for Metro North Railroad. The Project won an award from the Society of American Military Engineers and the New York Association of Consulting Engineers 2003 Silver Medal for Engineering Excellence. Poughkeepsie Station, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is a large Beaux Arts style railroad station constructed in 1914-1918 by the New York Central Railroad. The station was designed by Warren and Wetmore, the prominent New York architectural firm who designed several other stations for the New York Central Railroad including Grand Central Terminal. Lynn Drobbin & Associates (LDA) coordinated closely with the design team and SHPO to ensure that the parking deck design was compatible with the historic station and adjacent historic resources which included an historic brewery and piano factory. Design efforts focused largely on the rehabilitation and reconfiguration of the 420-foot long pedestrian walkway - a character-defining feature of the historic station site. LDA also assisted with product selection and finishes. In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, LDA prepared an Environmental Assessment, an Historic Architectural Resource Background Study and an Effects Assessment Report that secured an No Adverse Effect finding from the SHPO. |
